Sci Fi Tabletop RPG backgrounds

 Backgrounds

Here is a list of 7 backgrounds to pick and choose from to help spice up a character. These can also be used as simply inspiration too.

1. Cloned

Born from a cloning tube in a government facility, grown to 18 in a month and given a college level education while asleep. Afterwards given a month of basic training to get you up to speed on moving, running, and being a human. Afterwards you were sent off to a recruiters office and told to either go in the civilian world or join the military and work for the government.

You are a person with no parents, the only closest thing to family you have is your batch brothers and sisters. Each Clone has a tattoo on the wrist to keep track of batches and prevent issues from happening.

2. Creche Raised

9 months of gestation in an artificial womb then either adopted by a family or sent to a state run facility to be raised. Given an education and then sent on your way to greater horizons. Those from state run facilities exhibit a certain stoicism not seen in those adopted. Many form close families in the state facilities even living together after there time has ended as being a ward of the state.

3. Natural

Natural born people are rarer now than ever before. Many are seen as privileged for simply having a family that could go through the birthing process to ultimately have them. A chip on your shoulder due to the hostility leads you to be ambitious and earn your place in the world and simply not live off your parents wealth.

4. Spacer

Working in the void for a living. Whether that be on a private vessel, a navy ship or a station. With death just a hull-breach away religious beliefs remains high among spacers. Nihilism also runs in spacers. Spacers also tend to be strictly against drinking and drug use while on the job and even off the job.

5. Power Armor Pilot

You are best of the best, sent on missions with low survival odds yet you make it out alive time and time again. Whether you consider that skill or luck it has marked you. Pilots tend to be jaded and PTSD rates are the highest in the fleet. Yet the risk leads to some of the highest pay in the fleet. Cliques also form in the Power Armor Battalions, Pilots are aloof with non Power Armor users. They will form friendships but only other Pilots will truly understand them.

6. Espatier

Also called space marines, they are the first ones in during planetary operations, they also deal with shipboarding actions such as inspecting cargo, taking out pirate stations or other missions. Espatiers tend to be those with great aptitude and the ability to easily adapt to changing situations. Yet the burnout rate is high and many leave in a few years to either retire or join a PMC and make easy money.

7. Marine

Marines in contrast tend to solely focus on planet side operations. Doing year long campaigns if necessary to pacify a planet. Most who join the Corps do so out of necessity rather than preference. Whether running from past crimes or simply needing a job to get offworld the Corps always needs bodies. A marine should always have a past that's waiting to either come up or bite them in the ass.
