Micro Setting 1: Godzilla 'Cold War'
Intro:
1974: The Cold War rages. The Western and Eastern Bloc are
at the brink of nuclear war, South America is in turmoil with multinational backed
coups happening, espionage and sabotage escalating tensions. And yet there is another factor, Kaiju, massive monsters posing a danger to the world. 20 years after Godzilla first
appeared in Japan, multiple other monsters have appeared, and their simple
existence and territorial fights pose a existential threat to mankind. Tensions continue to
rise with Kaiju creating international disasters and with the UN
unable to come to a consensus on how to handle these unprecedented times, well the
doomsday clock ticks closer to midnight.
Factions:
MONARCH
Created the day after Godzilla’s landfall in Japan, a
subdivision of the Central Intelligence Agency it was designed to gather
information and help prevent further catastrophes from happening. It was also
designed to study how to utilize Kaiju for national defense.
COMMITTEE FOR CONTROL OF MONSTERS
Created by the USSR to combat MONARCH and handle Kaiju on
their own. While comparable to MONARCH they are famous for secrecy, there have
been no known defectors in the 20 years of operation.
ORGANIZED CRIME
An underbelly of black-market trade undercuts the kaiju
threat. Collectors, researchers and entrepreneurs all want Kaiju pieces. Kaiju
tourism is a growing unlicensed and unregulated market. Whether that be
tracking and hoping to see them in person or disaster tourism after they hit a country.
